Christingle - A celebration of light

This year our Christingle Service in support of The Children's Society, is on Sunday 4th December at 2pm at St. Peter's, and on 15th January 2012 at All Saints'.

It's a time to come along and create your very own Christingle -
with an Orange to represent the good Earth that God has given us,
fruits and sweets for the good things we have to eat,
a red ribbon to remind us of how much Jesus loves us, and a candle, the light of God shining in the darkness of this cold month.

I hope you can spread the word and come along with all the family.
All are invited, and welcome.

Lent discussion groups

Lent is a time to remember Christ’s sacrifice for all of us on the cross, and for us to make some small sacrifice or devotion to the Lord.

This year we are holding:
5 Weekly Sessions
from 22nd February to 25th March
We will be studying the York Course
“When I Survey” exploring the cross of Jesus

There will be a number of Lent Groups meeting in our parishes, all are open to anyone to attend.
+ Mondays at 12pm with a bring and share lunch in St. Peter's Church Vestry, Earle Street.
+ Wednesdays at 7pm at the Vicarage, 79 Stewart Street.
+ Thursdays at 7.30pm at 1 Buchan Grove.

Traditionally pancake day, just before the beginning of Lent, is an opportunity to eat up all those tasty treats that we are going to be giving up! Even if you're not into Lenten fasts, it's good to get together for some fun, so why don't you join us.

Discussion Groups in Lent

These three ... Faith, Hope and Love
This year our Lent discussion groups are based on the three great qualities celebrated in 1 Corinthians 13.

This famous passage begins and ends in majestic prose. But the middle paragraph is practical and demanding. St Paul's thirteen verses take us to the heart of what it means to be a Christian.

As with last year we will be having 5 weekly sessions looking at these topics:
1. Believing and Trusting
2. The Peace of God
3. Faith into Love
4. The Greatest of these
5. All shall be well

We will listen to thoughts from Bishop Tom Wright, Anne Atkins,
The Abbot of Worth and Dr. David Hope, with time for discussion, tea and biscuits. You don't need to be an expert or anything, so do join us.

During March, every Monday at 1pm at St. Peter's Church, and Wednesday, 7.30pm at The Vicarage, 79 Stewart Street.

Celebrate Love and Marriage

Whether you're in love now, or have been in the past - it's good to come together at St. Valentine's time to celebrate the love that we have known and shared.

It's especially a good time for couples to receive God's blessing for their relationship, to pray for healthy and happy relationships, to give thanks for good times in the past, and those who cannot be with us.

So, do come along to Church on Sunday 15th February: to St. Peter's at 9am, and All Saints' at 10.45am to celebrate Love.

It means that we are going to be more welcoming in Church, having services and social events that are easy to come to, and each of us making an effort to invite friends and family to come along.

What are we going to do?
We are focusing on having something in each month of the year that we can easily invite people to. It comes down to you and me, to invite people to come with us.
After all, which of your friends or family would object to being invited to a pancake party, a parish barbeque or an Easter morning service to get an Easter egg?

St. Peter's Pantomime Wows the crowds!

St. Peter's famous Christmas Pantomime was a great success and full of fun, laughter and a few surprises. It certainly brought a lift to our January blues!!

This year our Panto was Snow White, and we are looking forward to planning some more dramatic productions during the year with the skills and talents of our cast members.

Thanks to all who helped stage the production, to our cast members, Norma Minshall our Producer, and last but not least, yourselves.

This course is open to anybody in our parishes who are interested in healing, and it will NOT mean that you will be press-ganged to join the healing team.
The healing course is an introductory course for 8 sessions on Monday evenings, starting on 7th January 2008, 7.30-9pm in All Saints' Hall.
It is not a high pressured course, and there will be a break for tea and coffee in the middle. If you like, you could just come along for the first session to see what it's like.

Carrying the Message

Do you like listening to testimonies? Would you like to have more confidence sharing your own faith story? Then come along to five "Carrying the Message" sessions, due to start at 7.30pm on Thursday evenings from 8th November, in All Saints Hall, open to everyone from St Peter's and All Saints.

The format for each evening is simple - a brief introduction, a comic sketch to discuss, an explanation of a faith-sharing method; and then a chance to try the method out for yourself with someone else on a one-to-one basis over a cup of tea; before finishing with an open discussion of what everyone thought about the method.
And don't worry: if you come along no-one will expect you to share your testimony personally to the whole group unless you choose to do so; and no-one will be expected to tell their story in public!

It will cover the basics of our Christian Faith, and explain what Confirmation is all about.
